Don Wrede is the highest percentage (31.25%) Joe Hancock stallion in existence. He is the son of Little Brown Joe, who was one of the very few doublebred Joe Hancock grandsons. Don Wrede is doing his best to explode the myth of the homely headed Hancock horse, consistently putting gorgeous heads on his docile, intelligent foals. He also appropriately throws a lot of brown horses, brown (NOT roan) being the color of Joe Hancock himself. Don Wrede took over stud duties for his sire, Little Brown Joe, who was producing babies into his 30's. Although many of Don Wrede's get have gone straight into breeding programs because of their unusual concentration of Hancock blood, those who have been trained have distinguished themselves in a variety of disciplines and have always shown a tremendous amount of "cow."
